Andrew Gallo, the drunk driver who struck and killed promising Angels rookie pitcher, Nick Adenhart, was convicted on 3 counts of second degree murder, 1 count of drunk driving, hit and run and a DUI. He is expected to face 50 years to life in state prison pending his sentencing on December 10th.
This is Gallo’s 2nd DUI conviction, which helped escalate his charge to second-degree murder instead of the lesser charge of manslaughter. Because of his prior DUI conviction prosecutors proved that he had prior knowledge of the dangers of driving under the influence.
Gallo allegedly was driving with a blood alcohol level (BAC) of nearly 3 times the legal limit of .08.
Friends and family of both sides, including Angels manager, Mike Scioscia, commented on the closure to this tragic incident, but nothing can bring back the loss they have all experienced.
